Introducing Weekly Playlists

I’m going to be posting weekly playlists on Sunday through Spotify. I listen to a lot of music throughout the week & I typically become obsessed with a few songs that I play over and over again. I figured I’d share ten songs a week that made their way into my week somehow.

You can follow any of the playlists by clicking above or following my Spotify, alyssagux. They’ll all be public & titled by the date of that Sunday!

I’ll admit this week’s playlist is a bit of a modge podge, but I had a lot of ups & downs so that’s why. I’ll be sticking to different themes in other weeks.

  • Forgiveness – Paramore
You want forgiveness, but I just can’t do it yet. I found out I absolutely love the latest album from Paramore, After Laughter. I’m actually bummed I didn’t know how great it was last summer, but I’m already prepared to blast it on my first, and probably, every beach trip to come. Paramore somehow captured our angst and then paired it with island vibes. I won’t lie, I’m not mad.
  • Truth Hurts – Lizzo
You coulda had a bad bitch. Non-comittal. Help you with your cuhreer. Just a little. I feel like I don’t need to write anything else? That bridge is amazing? I wish I wrote it? Lizzo is a queen and I feel like this fire song should open more doors to more fame for her?
  • Wait – Maroon 5
I wasn’t trying to get wasted, I needed more than 3 or 4 to say this. I almost didn’t include this one, but to be honest, it’s so good. I listened to it on repeat when I first heard it. Maroon 5 is a bop machine and I don’t mind fueling it – we might as well get this guilty pleasure exposed and out of the way now. If you’re listening to this song and your shoulders aren’t moving, see a doctor.
  • Why Bother? – Weezer
WHY BOTHER IT’S GONNA HURT ME IT’S GONNA KILL WHEN YOU DESERT ME THIS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE BEFORE IT WON’T HAPPEN TO ME ANYMORE. Perfect song to jump around your bedroom to the second you realize you might possibly, maybe, even the smallest chance, have a crush on someone.
  • Graduate – Third Eye Blind
Can I get my punk ass off the street? I always need to scream this part – there’s really no other way. You’re getting double the 90’s alt-rock love this week. One of those songs you just gotta bang your head to. Most appropriate, liberating place would probably be in the passenger seat on a nice day with the window down.
  • Flightless Bird, American Mouth – Iron & Wine
Have I found you? Twilight was on TV last week & this song always makes me feel like there is some kind of beautiful, passionate love out there so here you go 🙂
  • Pleaser – Wallows
She’s a people pleaser, if only I could please her. If it was 2005, Wallows would be playing at The Bait Shop at the end of one of your favorite The O.C. episodes. And probably one of mine, too. Wallows is one of those bands who makes me feel like I’m missing out on some fun not living in California. Fun fact: Dylan Minette of 13 Reasons Why plays guitar for ’em.
  • Blessing – Buto
You look so fine, I can’t let you leave without my blessing. Just a fun one I like to walk down the street to and imagine myself dancing very smoothly in between all of the people on the sidewalk.
  • Don’t – Ed Sheeran
Ahh, such an accurate portrayal of the consequences of casual sex. This is like a fight for your rights song. I’m sure ya’ll have at least one ex-fling you want to call everytime you hear this song & be like “I wasn’t looking for a promise or committment, but it was never just fun and I thought you were different.” Ooooh.
  • Blackberries – Emily Blue
I will take the back door, baby, because I can see you’re trying to show me out. Emily Blue puts a kind of soulful twist on your basic pop music in this one. Not to mention, the message is essentially “I’m not going to let you string me along because I’m not stupid.” Amen. Also, was crazy intriqued by the cover art.
